Raising the bar to a better standard of living
You buy the books and programs, follow the suggestions, but before you can say Law of Attraction you're back where you started. This is your zone of comfort. So how do you raise the bar to a better standard of living? You need to change the boundaries.
Standards are those things you don't ever compromise on. They are an intrinsic part of who you are. They are your “normal”. That does not mean to say your standards cannot be improved upon, of course they can when you redefine the term “normal”. So let’s do just that.
- What standards do you live by?
- What standards do you want to live by?
Say for example your current standard means you are overweight because you’re eating too much food. That food is high fat, high calorie and you insist on eating it every day of the week. You also insist on having a pint or two with your mates after work. Because of your current standard of expenditure you are struggling to save money. Your bank balance and your standard of saving are reflected by the numbers. In addition to the diet standard you live by, your current energy level is low. You rarely exercise and you get out of breath. That’s “normal” for you.
Or you may have a standard that says you go to the gym 4 times a week. You eat healthy foods 6 days out of 7 and on the 7th day eat whatever you like because your weight is constant. You never have to buy new clothes because the ones you used to wear "shrunk", no you buy them because they make you feel good about yourself.
Go through every aspect of your day-to-day activities.
- Is your home and office neat? Or are there dishes piled on the sink and trash in the bins? Are your clothes folded away or thrown on the floor? Can you see your desk top or are you surrounded by piles of stuff you will get around to one day?
- Do you ensure you answer your correspondence and pay your bills on time? Or are you late with everything?
- Are you honest in your dealings with other people / companies? Are you honest with yourself?
- What do you wear? Are your clothes always laundered and ironed or crumpled and in need of fumigation?
- How do you look - clothed / unclothed? Do your clothes look good on you or would you be better losing a few pounds so your expensive suits fit better?
- Are you fit and toned or running to fat?
- Do you get enough sleep? Take a good multi vitamin daily? Eat the correct amount of food for your height and weight?
- Do you have a job you enjoy or one you loathe?
- Do you treat your co-workers with respect or gossip about the ones you dislike behind their backs?
When you look at your life, you will soon realise that whatever we consider our standard to be, you can see they can and do impact on every aspect of your life, if we are being honest with ourselves.
Spend some time today and work out the answer to these questions:
What standards do you currently live by?
And
What standards do you want to live by?
Then begin to make the changes. Your future self will thank you for it.
