It's time to re-fuel your passion

You don't get anything without effort. It's only when you shift out of first gear that you will begin to see how far and how fast you can travel.

The vehicle you are driving, the speed you travel, number of gear changes and stops you make will have an impact on your fuel consumption, as does the weight of the vehicle, what load you are carrying and whether or not you are towing something – each of these will each will determine how fast you need to fill up.

Of course there are other factors at play. Your fellow passengers may decide they want to go somewhere else, so detours occur. Other drivers may force you off the road. Weather and road conditions may affect speed, direction and duration. Ultimately though you are the main driver and it is up to you how fast you reach your ultimate destination. So all that said, let’s look at other aspects of this thing called life.

Your education will only get you so far before you need to add to your storehouse of knowledge if you want to improve:

  • The amount you earn will only get you to a certain level and style of living
  • Fitness levels will stay the same if you don’t do anything different
  • The emotional baggage you carry around will determine your attitude and abilities
  • The people you journey with will set the pace, direction and duration if you choose not to.

We need to add to our personal fuel tanks in order to move forwards or we stop.

  • We stop learning
  • We stop trying to earn more by being better and doing a better job
  • We stop trying to...

The interesting thing is however, we don’t know we’ve stopped most of the time.

People are racing past us as we dawdle along in first gear, never quite getting out of our zones of comfort. Speed is scary. Change – no way. And then we become like the last set of people. These don’t want to use their cars at all. They leave them in the driveway and expect the world to go to them.

But I hope I’m talking to the drivers rather than the ones waiting for their particular chauffeur to turn up.

  • It’s time to re-start your engines.
  • It’s time to kick back into a higher gear
  • It’s time to stop using clichés and re-discover our own particular passions. Because:

"Life should NOT
be a journey to the grave
with the intention of arriving
safely in an attractive
and well preserved body,
but rather to
skid in sideways,
chocolate in one hand,
martini in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out
and screaming
WOO HOO what a ride!"
