Motivate Me to Be Successful

"To think about your life is to create it. You have to take ownership of where you are right now and know where you want to go before you can get there. Keep collecting evidence for your success. You can believe it, and you can be it."

Your stepping stones to success

I hope this finds you well, I know, I know it's been a while since we last spoke, but we've been busy launching a sister company, it's very exciting and dovetails nicely with Motivate Me - why? Because it addresses one of the major areas of our lives ... namely our need to find meaningful work, and be well paid for doing it.

Now I am not about to offer you a great deal "you can do it too - and all for the easy commitment of ..."

I'm talking at a more practical level - you know those exact things that the "gurus" talk about, and how they keep you Just Over Broke - yes I am talking about getting another (hopefully better) JOB. Something most of us will need to do at some point in our lives while we pursue our dreams.

Working in HR for over a decade has taught me a thing or two about how to put job applications together, which was one of the main reasons why we decided to do it. The second reason comes back to motivate me.

Most of us want to improve our lot in life. We spend years studying, then we spend more years doing work that allows us to do everything else because of the money it brings in.

Then we get dissatisfied and usually decide to do one of three things:

  • Go back to study
  • Find another job
  • Launch our own business

First of all let me say there is absolutely nothing wrong with a healthy dissatisfaction with where we currently find ourselves. In fact it can be quite a healthy reaction to where we find ourselves throughout our lives as we have addressed many times with programs such as the 100 day challenge and Bring Your Dreams to Life, not to mention the countless message through the now rarely daily dose of motivational medicine.

You can have anything you want in life, you just need to know what it is you do want.

So - what do you want?

A new job - great. Where, doing what, how much do you want to get paid and just as importantly - are there any jobs out there that need my skills and abilities?

A Job Marketing Plan

Assuming you want to achieve more than you are currently getting then you need to understand there are some things you need to consider:

If you can get from where you are to where you want to be in one career step - you may end up doing OK work, but it may not satisfy you for long, so  I would suggest you need a bigger goal.

If you can't get from where you are to where you know you want to be in one career step - then you need a job marketing plan. Similarly, if you don't know how to get from where you are to where you will be - you might find yourself wandering off course, which is where a job marketing plan comes in handy.

So what is a job marketing plan?

Well in simple terms it's:

  • understanding the needs of the role that you want to apply for (your ultimate job)
  • checking your current skill set against the criteria
  • identifying the gaps (education, skills, experience) and
  • finding a way to bridge them

For example:

  • what training courses do you need to undertake?
  • what books do you need to read?
  • who do you need to talk to / learn from (mentoring)?
  • what is an interim role you can do to give you more skills?
  • can you obtain experience through other means - eg., volunteering, coaching a local team?

Then you need to build your resume around that information. One step at a time can get you where you need to be. You just need to know what the next step is.

Which is where most people get it wrong - and hence one of the reasons why our sister site was built.

So if you want to hop over to www.perthresumewriter.com.au and have a look, there are some great fr** resources and information you can use to kickstart a change in your career - should you be ready to take the next step on your career path. Or not as the case may be.
